This article was basically about how Obama wants to create a fair path to citizenship for illegal immigrants and what steps he believes are key to get those immigrants on that path. While reading the article there were two sides to this issue. One political party had absolutely no desire to create this path for illegal immigrants and they thought that they should just get out of our country, but the other political party agreed with Obama and his ideas to create that path to citizenship. The reason why Obama wants to create this path for illegal immigrants is so that highly skilled immigrants can come to our country and provide new jobs for American citizens to strengthen our economy. Obama made it very clear that immigrants who are coming into our country illegally is a very important issue and he wants to act on it as soon as possible and stop this problem.
Do you think that it is fair to provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who are already living in our country? Please explain your answer.

I think that it is not fair or important to provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who are already living in our country. I feel this way because I think that if we legalize illegal immigrants and make them citizens, as long as they pass the citizenship tests and regulations, they would not be beneficial to our country. If these illegal immigrants became citizens they would pay taxes that they do not currently pay. However that tax money would probably be spent on making illegal immigrants citizens. Also, it is not fair to legal immigrants who are trying to become citizens if the illegal immigrants become citizens. If illegal immigrants are unregistered in the country how could they even be notified of this illegal immigrants becoming citizens fiasco. The logistics of this project are not really there and I think it would not be worth whatever benefits there are of making illegal immigrants citizens.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Dan, not only is it unfair to legal immigrants who are trying to be citizens, it is extremely unfair in my opinion to exclude anyone from being required to pay taxes. If this project were to be followed through it would have very minimal positive effect, as opposed to the immense struggles it poses to create.
ReplyDeleteI agree with dan on this one that it is unfair to those who are already here legally. With this system we are simply giving everything to those who did not work for it and are here ilegally. On the other hand we are leaving those that have worked hard to get here on their own to struggle. I feel like our country is taking a step backwards here when we act as though we are fighting against illegal immgrants, but we are helping them flourish and giving many others the idea that this is a better way to enter the country.
